Walsall Wood 1-1 Coventry Sphinx - Report
Former Alvechurch man Leo Brown struck against his former manager Ian Long to deny a happy league bow in charge of Walsall Wood - who were forced to share the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Coventry Sphinx.
Long, 48, is back in the dugout after his longest spell out of management - albeit a minor six-week break -having departed Southern League Premier Central side Alvechurch in mid-September.
He was unable to register a first three-point haul in charge at the John Sylvester Stadium, despite Joe Fitzpatrick's stunning drive on 28 minutes.
For all of their opportunities, the Wood were unable to make the visitors pay however, and ultimately paid the price themselves when Brown hauled Sphinx level a minute before the break.
Despite both sides hitting the woodwork in the second 45, the two teams were unable to decide the encounter.
