Investigations continue into 1,000-ton Willenhall recycling fire

An investigation is continuing into a major blaze at a recycling plant in the Black Country.

The fire in the Short Heath area of Willenhall is thought to have involved around 1,000 tons of recycling waste and pallets on Tuesday.

Black smoke could be seen from miles across the Black Country and visible.

A spokesman from West Midlands Fire Service said a joint investigation is continuing to find the cause of the fire.

Ten fire crews were sent to fight the blaze at Alvar Business Park, off Ezekiel Lane.

The blaze started at around 12.30pm on Tuesday and four fire engines were still at the scene at 6pm that evening.

On Friday, a West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: "Joint investigations into the cause of the fire continue.

"We are working closely with colleagues from the Environment Agency and West Midlands Police."

The smoke from the fire could be seen as far away as Cannock, Sutton Coldfield, Bilston and Tividale.
