The operation was the latest phase of an ongoing National Crime Agency probe into alleged drug smuggling and money laundering, and was supported by the Metropolitan and West Midlands police forces.

A 45-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman were arrested at an address in Seven Sisters, London and a 40-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were detained at an address in Edgware, London.

Officers carried out a search of an address linked to one of the suspects in Streetly, where they seized a number of items including computers, phones and documents.

NCA senior investigating officer Jon Hughes said: “All those arrested were detained on suspicion of conspiring to import drugs and money laundering and are now being questioned.

"Activity continues at some of the addresses we have visited, but I would like to reassure the public in those areas that we are determined to do all we can to protect them and their communities from the harm caused by organised crime.”
