Police have appealed directly to the motorcyclist who was caught on CCTV leaving the scene after the crash in Tipton on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Ocker Hill Road and Spring Street, at around 10.50pm, following reports that a motorbike had hit a lamppost.

The 22-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital.

He remains in a critical condition in hospital today.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash – and say there was another bike seen on CCTV travelling with him, but it left the scene after the crash.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from West Midlands Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "A young man has been seriously injured and his family are naturally devastated. We have specialist officers supporting them at this difficult time.

“I am urgently appealing for anyone with information to contact us. I am particularly keen to hear from anybody who witnessed what happened or saw the bike just beforehand.

"I know from CCTV that there was another bike we believe to have been travelling with this man, however he chose to ride off and leave the scene.

"I would appeal directly to that rider to do the right thing and contact us as soon as possible and help us get the answers the family deserve."

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesman added: "We were called at 10:29pm on Friday, to reports of a collision involving a motorbike and lamppost on Ocker Hill Road, Tipton.

"We sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and MERIT trauma doctor to the scene.

"We treated one patient, a man who was the motorcyclist, for life threatening injuries before taking him on blue lights to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact West Midlands Police on 101, quoting incident number 4769 of May 1.
