Residents could reminisce about the history of Rake Gate in Oxley, Wolverhampton, during the display at Rakegate Methodist Church.

Pictures, newspaper clippings and books were all put on show by the Rake Gate Tenants and Residents Association, a community-led voluntary group.

The exhibition is being run over three weeks at the Renton Grove church, with next Saturday being the final chance to see it.

Pieces offered for the project will be returned to the owner after the last day.

Marie Lane, chair of the group, said: "We've had a lot of people visit and it's been nice.

"There's either people who live here still or who used to.

"I've got a comments book by the door but I haven't read it yet.

"I've been rushed off my feet but it's been quite lovely.

"We've got people who used to be neighbours years ago hugging and kissing and rekindling that friendship.

"There's lots of photographs and newspaper clippings, books from Wolverhampton, maps and photographs people have borrowed me.

"We've had people from all over the city and one lady who said she came from Hampshire.

"I'm really proud because I love history and this was a labour of love and it's nice to see old friend and neighbours.

"It's been a really nice experience."

The exhibition was suggested by Ms Lane at the association's annual general meeting in January.

It will open on Saturday between 10am to 4pm.
