It is always a difficult balancing act weighing up the club’s biggest assets and the potential they may have, and Nathan Collins’ likely move to Brentford will have left many with headaches in the Wolves hierarchy.

The short story is this – Wolves are set to make a profit on a player they signed less than 12 months ago, who has played little football under Julen Lopetegui and at a time when the club must generate funds. On the face of it, it looks like a win-win scenario.

But in Collins, Wolves are losing a player that many of the club’s hierarchy rated highly and felt could be a potential top-six defender in the years to come.

The 22-year-old is still raw and has plenty to improve, but has shown many of the natural instincts needed to become a top defender – that is why so many Premier League clubs wanted him 12 months ago and why so many have continued to monitor him.
