Wolves fan Mike Crump has spearheaded a 'Champions of the World' project – which has also included created a paper and oral history archive.

The three-disc DVD focuses heavily on Wolves' famous 1950s games against Honved, Spartak Moscow and Dynamo Moscow.

It also captures memories of the pre-season tour to the USSR in 1955 and the defeat of all-conquering Real Madrid in 1957.

The DVD features five documentary length films. Champions of the World focuses on the floodlit internationals and their origins, while Magical Magyars and Hungry Wolves looks at the famous Honved match in particular.

They include interviews with Ron Flowers, Graham Taylor, Ron Atkinson, Gordon Banks and Professor Carl Chinn, plus archive interviews with Bert Williams and Shirley Broadbent.

Two extra have also been added – one entitled Wolves in Europe 1971/72 and another called No Regrets, featuring an interview with Peter Knowles.

It is believed to be the first interview on film Knowles has conducted since his retirement in 1969.

The 1971/72 film includes interviews with Kenny Hibbit, John Richards and Phil Parkes.

The project, funded by Heritage Lottery Fund, has also been supported by Andrew Cullis – son of Stan Cullis – who contributed more than 50 original letters and telegrams sent to the legendary Wolves boss by supporters and dignitaries in the wake of the games, which are now housed at the Wolves Museum.

Mike said: "The DVD films are full of stories in which supporters will be interested and are we believe a must for supporters of football and heritage enthusiasts alike."

Copies of the paper and oral history archive will to be lodged at the Wolves Museum and the National Football Museum in Manchester as research archives available for anyone to access.

The DVD costs £20 and profits will be split between the Bert Williams alzheimers charity appeal and Our Voice CIC, a not-for0profit community based organisation which helps people who experience mental health problems.

To order a copy make cheques or a similar remittance payable to Our Voice CIC and send to to Mike Crump, Champions of the World Project, 29 Trident Drive, Langley Green, Oldbury, West Midlands, B68 8HW.
