Slaven Bilic keeps an eye on West Brom targets

Head Coach Slaven Bilic says scouting players is one of the things keeping him busy in lockdown – after Albion were linked with a move for Croatian defender Domagoj Vida.

According to reports in Turkey, Bilic is plotting an £8.5million move for Vida, who currently plays for Besiktas. He has previously been linked with rivals Villa.

The 30-year-old, who can play at right-back or centre-half, shot to prominence after starring for Croatia at the 2018 World Cup.

Earlier this month, technical director Luke Dowling revealed Albion are using technology to extensively scout players abroad while football is suspended amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Express & Star understands the Baggies have compiled two lists of targets – depending on whether they are in the Premier League or Championship next season.

But like all clubs, the Baggies are going to have to assess the financial landscape when football is able to return following the coronavirus pandemic.

Bilic believes it’s important his current time is spent researching potential recruits.

“We are doing a bit of scouting, of course,” Bilic said when asked how he is spending his time in lockdown.

“People are calling, the agents are calling.

“Now you have time to start.

“You can watch your games again, we can watch the nine opponents that we still have to play against.

“At the end of the day, if you have anything now you have time.

“You can find new ideas in your head. It’s okay.

“It’s not only to get you through the day – you are trying to improve, you can make the time useful.”
