Darren Moore: First goal will ignite Bakary Sako's career at West Brom

Darren Moore believes Bakary Sako's first goal for the Baggies will help kick-start his Albion career.

Sako scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

And Moore believes Albion fans are now starting to see why he brought the former Wolves man in as a free agent.

"Bakary's had to sit and watch the goals Harvey Barnes, Jay Rodriguez, Dwight Gayle, and Matty Phillips have scored," he said.

"We've now got Bakary fit and we're starting to see the speed and mobility of him. He's understanding what's required of him.

"I'm delighted he got his goal, he could've scored a second when he had one cleared off the line.

"He was a constant menace, that game and goal will have done Bakary the world of good.

"Competition is fierce, it's what I want. I've got 28 or 29 of them asking me to play, I can only pick 18 of them. But that's only good for West Brom."

Sako's arrival has shunted Oliver Burke down the pecking order and the £15million man has now been sent out on loan to Celtic for the second half of the season.

However, there is no option to buy included in the loan because Albion still want Burke to have a long-term future at the Baggies.

"Hopefully we get him back at full throttle," said Moore. "He's with a quality group of players, a club trying to win the Scottish Premiership.

"He's working with an elite manager, at a club steeped in tradition. All that bodes well for his learning.

"Training sessions will be great, but we hope Brendan (Rodgers) will be able to use him. Those games you need, he'll get them in the SPL. That's vital.

"Oli Burke is a young player and has missed a chunk of games. We've worked hard with him in training but unfortunately those in front of him have been scoring goals.

"Oli wants to play. It's been difficult for him. It's important he doesn't go and sit around for the second half of the season.

"We need him coming back in the summer ready and contesting for a starting place at West Brom."
