The club’s top scorer is brimming with confidence after notching a hat-trick away at Rotherham on Saturday.

Although he’s warned the Baggies not to get ahead of themselves, he is keen to send the fans home with a smile on their face.

“I'm just buzzing really,” he said. “Everyone's so excited and happy, we're looking forward to the next few weeks.

“It's important not to get too carried away. We've got Wigan on Boxing Day who are a solid side.

“We know how good Wigan are, we came unstuck against them earlier in the season and it put us on a downer after that.

“Hopefully we give the fans a nice Boxing Day.”

Albion now enjoy back-to-back home games against Wigan today and Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, and Gayle believes the 4-0 win at the New York Stadium last weekend has set them up perfectly.

“There’s nothing better than going into the Christmas period with a win,” he said. “We know how frantic it's going to be but we've got a strong squad.

“Games are going to come thick and fast, we're going to need as much recovery as possible. Everyone's ready to come in and play their part.”

Gayle himself has been adapting to a new position on the right hand side of a front three, although it hasn’t dented his scoring rate.

“It's something different,” he said. “I haven't done it for the last three or four years, but it's a nice challenge for me. I’m just happy to be out on the pitch and playing.”
