James McClean aimed a parting shot at Tony Pulis and Alan Pardew after saying he felt he did not always have the backing of his managers at Albion.

Speaking after the completion of his £5million move to Stoke, McClean said it was good to feel wanted after joining Gary Rowett, a man who tried to sign him at both Birmingham and Derby.

But McClean said he wanted to make a fresh start in the Potteries after struggling for regular first-team football under Pulis and Pardew – until he was brought back for the last six games under Darren Moore.

"At international level, I've always had a manager that's backed me and that goes a long way," he said. "At club level last year, I didn't always feel as confident.

"I didn't always feel I had the backing of the manager until Darren Moore came in and I played the last six games.

"Before I didn't feel I had got the backing of the managers."

And the winger, who had a mixed relationship with Albion supporters in his time at The Hawthorns, told the Stoke City website: "All I ask is to be judged on what I do on the pitch.

"It's not always been the case but hopefully if I perform on the pitch, the fans will see that I care."

McClean could make his first Stoke appearance in tomorrow night's friendly against Wolves at the Bet365 Stadium.
