Alan Pardew's men are locked near the foot of the top flight with the Saints. The 18th and 19th-placed clubs are separated by just two points.

And as well as a crucial league clash with Mauricio Pellegrino's men at Albion on Saturday, the clubs will do battle for a place in the FA Cup quarter-final.

It is another tie that draws parallels to Albion's cup-winning 1967/68 campaign, where they met Southampton in the fourth round. They later dispatched of Liverpool in the quarter-final half-a-century ago – the club Pardew's men memorably knocked out last Saturday night.

Southampton progressed thanks to a 1-0 victory over Watford.

The tie will be played the weekend of February 17.
