The Baggies captain has been offered a deal worth £100,000-a-week to tempt him to stay, but both Manchester giants, Arsenal and Everton are all readying January bids.

However, reports surfacing late this week state that Albion have failed to persuade the centre-back to stay.

Alan Pardew is bracing himself for offers, and while he would prefer to keep his skipper at the club, he is aware that one of the big six clubs could blow the Baggies out of the water.

Evans only has 18 months left on his existing deal, but his value could depreciate the longer it is left to run down and the older the 29-year-old Northern Irishman gets.

“I think you have to be realistic in these situations,” said Pardew. “Jonny is a top player, other clubs were interested in him in the summer.

"We know that and he knows that, we have to be intelligent and straightforward dealing with it.

“He is under contract for West Brom. He knows he can have those conversations (about a new deal) with us.

“We will give him the best deal we possibly can on the financial side and length of contract, but that might not be the whole thing with Jonny.”

Pardew will have a small amount of money to spend in January, but not enough to bring in several players in permanently unless he off-loads others first.

Evans could fetch up to £30m in January, allowing the new manager redirect funds elsewhere.

“The biggest plus is Jonny to stay if I am honest," he said. "If the bid is such it becomes very difficult (to turn down), we will look at it then.”

Evans hasn’t won a game for the Baggies since March because he was injured at the start of the season when Albion picked up their only wins of the campaign.

It is a staggering run which includes 25 games, but Pardew has been pleased with his performances for him.

“The scrutiny can impact on you and your performance can go off," said the boss.

"He has been up for the battle though. he’s not caused me any kind of negativity that sometimes players can do. He gets a big tick in my report.

“It does surprise me (he's not won this season). But I think you could probably level that against most of the squad because we’ve only won two games.

“So there have only 12 who have got the wins so it’s unfair to stick it at Jonny’s door.”
