Following the club’s impressive 2-0 win over Scunthorpe United on Saturday, Dutton shocked supporters and media with his post-match comments.

The 36-year-old called for clarity over his future and said he was unsure whether he would be staying on next season.

However, he also hinted that the match on the weekend may have been his last in charge as his role remains uncertain.

As it stands there has been no official movement on his position but many are expecting he may leave before Walsall’s home clash with Morecambe on Saturday.

In a somewhat unusual move, the squad were given an extra day off from training yesterday which may point towards confirming Dutton’s future with the Saddlers.

However, the former assistant manager did sign a contract as head coach until the end of the season and with two games left he will be keen to finish the job.

Dutton has consistently said he wants the role permanently but it now remains to be seen whether the board will reward him with a new contract after only three wins in 18 games.
