He made a positive start, compiling a first-frame break of66, but struggled to hit his scoring straps from then on in.

But despite a difficult season in which he has only reached the second round at two ranking events, the world number 101 says he’s looking forward to taking to thetable once again.

“I felt better out there tonight – I’m just working on a few things and am starting to see a few of the benefits from that,” he said.

“But there’s a couple of qualifiers coming up in Barnsley for their German and European Masters and I’m looking forward to getting back out there.

“I’ve made a few changes in my game, and going forward I’m definitely looking forward to playing a bit more snooker.

“I’ve made some technical changes and some away from the table.

“I’ve upped my practice a lot more and I’m enjoying my snooker now, which is half the battle.

“I don’t want to look too far in front really, I just take it one match and one tournament at a time and analyse my game from there.”
