One person suffered minor injuries and all lanes were closed on the northbound carriageway after the incident between Junction 10 and Junction 10a on the link for the M54 at Walsall.

Two cars were involved in the crash just before 8am, Highways England said, and one of the cars then hit a barrier on the motorway.

Traffic officers and emergency services were on the scene and all the lanes reopened at around 9.30am after the vehicles were moved to the hard shoulder.

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance service said: "We were called at 8.30am to reports of a two-car RTC.

"One ambulance attended the scene and treated a man in his 30s, who was the driver of one of the cars, for minor head injuries.

"The patient has been taken to New Cross Hospital and we have now left the scene."

Meanwhile there was disruption on train lines after Storm Bronagh battered the region overnight and delays on the West Midlands Metro after the entire network lost power for around 30 minutes.
