M6 traffic delays after crashes lead to miles of tailbacks

Motorists faced tailbacks of more than six miles after a crash blocked part of the M6.

Delays of up to an hour were reported southbound through the Black Country into Birmingham.

Two lorries and a car were involved in the crash which happened shortly before 2.15pm on Thursday.

Three lanes were shut close to junction six for the Aston Expressway at Spaghetti Junction.

Highways officials helped reopen two of the lanes inside half an hour.

But during the clear up two vehicles broke down in the same area blocking traffic further.

Delays eased as the route was cleared by around 3.30pm.

Meanwhile traffic built up after another crash on the M6 northbound at junction 14 for Stafford and Stone.

There were around seven miles of queuing traffic back from the crash site towards Wolverhampton.
