Newbridge Surgery, on Tettenhall Road, will now be able to offer patients access to a range of surgeries.

The move was made to extend the site, which was handed a grant from NHS England, in a bid to make it a "single access point" for patients.

Dr Gillian Pickavance, senior GP at the practice, said: "The new workforce project from the Government is to get more community engagement and use other healthcare professionals – such as social care workers, clinical pharmacists, and others – to benefit patients.

"And we thought if we were going to provide holistic care we needed a bigger building to provide a single point of contact for lots of people.

"It's a mental and social problem along with a physical one and if we can deal with that close to where our patients live, it would improve their health."

The development has seen a new meeting room – as well as space for other professionals – in the building.

A launch event was held at the surgery in a bid to share the support on offer with patients.

Dr Pickavance added: "WE find patients don't want to travel very far and often don't realise there's a lot of people out there offering help.

"It's about trying to get the message out and for patients to meet some people."

Planning permission was granted for the site 18 months ago, with work taking place a year ago – while the GP surgery was still open.

"We've had some really nice comments about how we've managed to keep working despite the work," she added.
