Katharine Sacks-Jones, CEO of Become – a charity which supports children in care and young care leavers, said she was saddened to see residents had objected to the plan to convert a house in The Oaks into a new facility.

She added there are not enough homes in the country and encouraged people to write to their local MP to call on the government to do more.

At a planning committee meeting, a retrospective application was discussed with members being told more than 250 had voiced their opposition to the plan for the home, which will house two youngsters.

Residents raised concerns around crime, anti-social behaviour, parking, highways issues and safety and added there had already been incidents involving a child placed there.
