Kirat Singh has resigned as a councillor

Mr Singh was elected for Labour in May 2021 but within months was suspended by the party for reasons not yet made public.

In the last 12 months Mr Singh attended only one out of 10 Sandwell Council meetings.

His resignation will spark a by-election which will probably be held in September.

A spokesman for Sandwell Council said: "Councillor Kirat Singh resigned from his position as a Sandwell councillor yesterday (Wednesday) as he has secured a new job that is politically restricted."
