Elderly woman dies after being hit by Iceland delivery van in Wordsley

An 88-year-old woman has died after being hit by an Iceland delivery van in Wordsley, police have confirmed

Emergency services were called to Lawnswood Road at around 1.15pm on Friday following the incident.

The woman was treated by paramedics, but despite their best efforts she later died at hospital. The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting the police with their investigations.

The Midland Air Ambulance flew in from Cosford but the patient was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

Sergeant Alan Wood, from the West Midlands Police Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to contact us, the collision took place as the pedestrian crossed Lawnswood Road near to the Sainsbury’s Local.

“Our thoughts at this time are with the family of the lady who lost her life, specialist officers are supporting them at this difficult time.”
