Blood sprayed across street as two men injured in Birmingham violence

Two men suffered significant injuries to their face after a fight in Birmingham city centre over the Bank Holiday weekend.

A fight is believed to have broken out in Bristol Street, opposite the O2 Academy, shortly before 3.30am on Monday morning.

Two men were taken to hospital where they remain this afternoon with what police described as "significant injuries" to their face.

A spokesman from West Midlands Police said it is believed a "sharp implement" was used but investigations are still on-going.

Bristol Street was still cordoned off by officers today and dramatic photos from the scene showed blood-splattered vehicles on the roadside outside a row of restaurants and shops.

A police tent has also been erected at the scene.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police are investigating after two men were injured in Bristol Street, Birmingham shortly before 3.30am this morning.

"We believe a fight has taken place and subsequently two men were taken to hospital, where they remain with significant injuries to their face.

The incident happened in the early hours of Monday morning

"We believe a sharp implement was used and investigations are ongoing to determine what happened.

"CCTV is being reviewed and anyone with information can contact us."
