The Saleem Foundation has announced it will be working to raise funds through sponsored events and other donations for the Leukaemia Fund, which supports the Georgina Unit at Russells Hall hospital.

The foundation, which was given charitable status in April last year, will also work to offer small grants to charities and groups looking to start projects in Dudley and the Black Country.

Foundation chairman and Dudley councillor Steve Waltho MBE said: “The founder Shaz Saleem and I were talking about charities we could help and, with my links to the hospital, I suggested the fund as the charity to support.

“Shaz was also very keen to support it as we both know individuals and families that have been affected by leukaemia and other blood cancers as well.

“We will help to support the Georgina Unit at Russells Hall Hospital, which helps people suffering from a range of blood cancers.”

Councillor Waltho said the foundation was looking to raise as much money as possible to help the Georgina Unit and had already completed one big fundraising challenge.
