Ishaq Adams was driving his WV Polo northbound on the motorway when he decided to leave the motorway at Junction 10a for Wolverhampton at the last minute.

The 21-year-old swerved from lane two of the motorway across to the slip road, straight into a Peugeot which was slammed head-on into the barriers.

The driver of the Peugeot suffered minor injuries in the crash, which happened on September 21 last year at around 8.30am, while Adams has now been banned from driving for 12 months.

Adams, of Kinwarton Close in Yardley, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at Cannock Magistrates Court on Monday.

As well as the driving ban, he was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £285 in costs.

Pc Ian Harnett, of the Central Motorway Policing Group, said: “This was reckless driving that could’ve resulted in serious injury or worse.

"We hope that Adams learns from this experience.”
