Stab attack after brawl spills into Spar shop

A man suffered a serious head injury and a second man was stabbed after a brawl spilled into a Spar shop.

Four people have been arrested following the melee at the convenience store in Great Barr on Thursday night.

Police descended on the Spar Express shop, in Queslett Road, near Buffet Island, at around 7.45pm.

A 19-year-old man suffered serious head and facial injuries and is receiving treatment in hospital.

Police confirmed another man suffered a knife injury to his back side. He is also being treated.

Four men, aged 26, 24, 26 and 48 from Great Barr have been arrested.

They remain in police custody on Friday for questioning on suspicion of wounding.

A man, who had been attacked, was chased into the nearby Spar Express.

Aidan Stacon, manager of the store, said: "There was an attack and they chased someone into the shop and carried on attacking him.

"We were here at the time and the staff are quite shook up after it.

"Some kid came running into the shop and was chased by a few other blokes.

"They carried on hitting him and then the police arrived not long afterwards.

"We were open at the time and the first place he came.

"It was nothing to do with the shop in any way, shape or form. This is just where it ended up."

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "There were two patients, both male, treated for multiple injuries not believed to be life-threatening. One patient was taken to hospital."

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "Police received a 999 call at 7.30pm last night from a member of the public to reports of a disorder involving weapons at the Spar shop in Queslett Road, Great Barr.

"West Midlands Police has arrested four people in connection with the incident - they are men aged 26, 26, 24 and 48 who are all from the Great Barr area. They remain in police custody this morning for questioning on suspicion of wounding."
