Completion of the creation of a joint venture is still conditional on it being cleared by competition authorities.

If that goes through then the deal, which was announced in May, is to complete in the third quarter of this year.

Voting yesterday was 82,783,734 (98.7 per cent) in favour to 1,093,942 (1.3 per cent) against.

The number of votes validly cast represented 44.77 per cent of the company's issued share capital at 6.30pm on June 23.

The new Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company will have its headquarters in Wolverhampton, where Marston's has its head office.

Marston's will concentrate on its pubs, restaurants and hotels operations and have a 40 per cent stake in the new company which is due to start operating in September

The joint venture with the Danish brewing giant values Marston's brewing business, including Banks's, Hobgoblin and Marston's Pedigree, at £580 million.

Marston's will be announcing its latest interim results on Friday.
