Man dies after Dudley Road crash in Blakenhall

A man has died after being hit by a car at a busy junction in Wolverhampton.

The pedestrian, aged 50, was left with life-threatening injuries when he was struck in Blakenhall shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning.

He was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital but died on Tuesday afternoon, police have confirmed.

The man was hit by a Toyota Yaris on Dudley Road at its junction with Goldthorn Hill, known locally as the Fighting Cocks junction.

A 42-year-old was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving but has been released pending further investigation.

Det Con Chris Ridge, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at West Midlands Police, said: "Our enquiries into the circumstances of this collision are continuing at pace.

"I’d ask anyone who saw what happened and hasn’t already spoken to us to contact me or my team as soon as possible.

“The family of the man who lost his life has been informed and our specialist officers are providing them with support.

“If you saw anything or have dash-cam footage, please get in touch with us as soon as possible."
