Drink-drive arrest after man hit by car close to busy Blakenhall junction

A man has been seriously injured after being hit by a car at a busy junction in Wolverhampton.

The collision happened on Dudley Road at its junction with Goldthorn Hill, known locally as the Fighting Cocks junction, in Blakenhall.

The male pedestrian, in his 50s, was taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital after the crash happened shortly after midnight on Tuesday morning.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.

West Midlands Police has now launched an investigation and is asking for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for the force said: "Police are investigating reports of a collision on Dudley Road, Blakenhall in the early hours of this morning.

"A man in his 50s was taken to hospital in a life threatening condition after he was struck by a Toyota Yaris.

"A 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving.

"Investigations are ongoing and anyone with information can contact us."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said:

"We treated one patient, a man, who was the pedestrian, for serious injuries."

Dudley Road was closed at the junction with Goldthorn Hill until around 7.30am.
