A little girl celebrating her sixth birthday was knocked down by a car and killed outside her home shortly after her party.

Daisy May Brooks was playing outside her house in Wolverhampton when tragedy struck. The Springdale Infants School pupil was taken to New Cross Hospital but later died.

Her grieving parents spoke lovingly of Daisy as they sat in their home in Warstones Drive, Penn, filled with birthday cards and presents.

Meanwhile, a stream of teachers, neighbours and children were laying flowers at the spot where tragedy struck at the weekend.

Daisy's mother Helen wiped away tears as she said: "She had had a lovely day. There were lots of her friends at the party. They played pass-the-parcel and went to the park."

She and her 37-year-old husband Simon have three other children, Chelsea, 11, Liam, nine, and eight-year-old Hollie and have lived in the street for some four years. Mr Brooks added: "The crash happened just after the party. Daisy was a lovely little girl who always had a smile on her face. She was funny and cheeky.

"Her nickname was 'Pud' because after she was born we bought her a musical Christmas pudding hat and the name just stuck. We have still got that hat."

Mrs Brooks said her Daisy May liked drawing and playing with her teddies and Hello Kitty was her favourite brand of clothing.

She said: "We would like to thank everybody for their support. Daisy will never be forgotten."

Mrs Brooks added: "All the doctors and nurses there were brilliant. They tried their best for her but sadly they could not save her."

Police were called to the scene at 5.14pm on Saturday. The driver of the car, a Honda Civic, was spoken to by officers and investigations are ongoing.
