A van driver from Cannock has died after a horror crash on a busy south Staffordshire road.

A van driver from Cannock has died after a horror crash on a busy south Staffordshire road.

Gary Meacham, aged 50, suffered multiple injuries and was airlifted from the scene of the three-vehicle smash on the A460 at Shareshill yesterday.

But Mr Meacham, of Brownhills Road, Norton?Canes, died shortly after being taken to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

His van collided with a lorry and a Honda Civic at 10.25am. The female passenger of the car was taken to Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital with minor chest injuries.

The driver was unhurt. while the HGV driver was treated for shock.

Police closed the road between Hilton Lane and Junction 11 of the M6 while investigations continued.

The air ambulance landed in a field next to the crash.

The road was reopened at 2pm. Staffordshire Police today continued to appeal for information.

Witnesses should ring Sgt Ant Richards of Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 185 of November 29.

Meanwhile a 48-year-old woman critically injured in a two-car smash near Stone has died. The accident happened near Aston Marina on Thursday.
