Hap...pee days! Pub's loo tree continues to flourish
There has been relief all round in the toilets at The Combermere Arms . . . as the pub’s famous tree is still going strong.
It had to be cut down to size earlier this year for a new roof to be put on the toilet with fears it might kill off the old oak flushing years of tradition down the toilet.
But staff and regulars at the pub in Chapel Ash, Wolverhampton, are now bursting with pride as the tree, still rooted in place, has started sprouting new leaves.
Landlord Gavin Craig said: “We’ve been delighted at the tree continuing to grow.
“We thought, at first, that it wasn’t going to survive, but it seems to be getting watered and finding nutrients and it’s come back quite successfully. It’s not only visited by gents needing to use the toilet, but ladies like to come and have a look at it.
“We’re famous for our beers as well, but there aren’t many pubs with a tree in the toilet, so you’ll always remember that and tell your mates about this little pub you were saw with a tree where it is.”
The tree has been on the grounds of the pub for more than 100 years.
