Scotty’s Donkeys & Animal Park had been based at Apley Estate for 10 years but closed its doors for the last time on September 3 when its lease came to an end.

The animal sanctuary was set up by Tony "Scotty" Scott and his wife Gemma Mytton-Scott at the Apley Estate on the A442 Bridgnorth Road a decade ago. They said the decision to close had caused "heartache".

A sale of equipment used in the animal park was set to go under the hammer on the former donkey sanctuary site on Saturday in an auction arranged by Shrewsbury based Halls Livestock and Machinery Sales.

But the auctioneers have brought the sale forward to Friday, October 20, with the first lots going under the hammer at 10.30am.

Lots include a 1991 JCB 525 - 58 telehandler, a 2013 Zetor Major 80 4WD tractor with 220p front loader and pallet tines, an International 785 2WD tractor, a YTM 4WD tractor, a 2007 Range Rover Sport HSE, a 2009 Mitsubishi L200 twin cab pickup truck, a 2004 Mitsubish L200 pickup truck and a 2004 Vauxhall Combo 1.7DTI van.

Other lots include an Ifor Williams twin axle horsebox, trailers, livestock feeding equipment, fencing, office buildings and office furniture.

“It’s sad that the animal park has had to close, resulting in this dispersal sale,” said Jonny Dymond, Halls’ auctioneer and Shrewsbury Auction Centre manager. “It’s a really interesting sale of everything from this much loved animal sanctuary and park.

“We have been delighted to have played a part in the farming journey of Scotty’s which has purchased calves from the market over the years.”
