Sam Vokes finally made his Wolves comeback today aiming to put his injury nightmare behind him.

The 21-year-old striker played in today's behind closed doors friendly against Leicester at Compton, after having his loan at Bristol City wrecked by hamstring problems.

He said: "I had my first few days back training last week. It's been a nightmare first half of the season for me. In my first appearance at Bristol City I tore my hamstring.

"And when I came back from there I suffered another hamstring problem which was different and had another couple of weeks out.

"I've been building up since then, getting myself back fit again and the hamstring is fine now.

"Today was my first reserve game back and hopefully I can now kick on for the rest of the season with plenty of games to go."

Vokes is prepared to go back out on loan, although the Wales international would prefer to fight for his first-team place at Wolves.

He said: "Once I'm fit it's up to the gaffer as to what happens next. I need to get some reserve games under my belt and take it from there.

"I'd love to fight my way back in at Wolves – this is my club and I want to play here.

"But if he wants me to get out on loan again and get some more games then that's fine.

"All I'm thinking about at the moment is getting myself fit to give myself the best chance of regular football."
