Mick McCarthy today insisted Wayne Hennessey will be staying put for now, dashing his hopes of a loan move.

Hennessey, who has not played in the Premier League for a year, has admitted he is so desperate for regular football again that he would go to the Championship on loan.

But the Wolves boss said the Wales international will remain at Molineux, at least until Carl Ikeme returns from his 93-day loan at Leicester.

"I guess it's admirable that he wants to play but unless it suits me then it can't happen, and at the moment, it doesn't," said the manager.

"The status quo will remain for the near future because if anything happened to Marcus Hahnemann, I want Wayne here to play."

Meanwhile, Chelsea can recall Michael Mancienne in January because of a clause in his season-long loan. But McCarthy hasn't heard anything from Stamford Bridge.

"Mance has been great, but we took him knowing that there's a break in the transfer window when they can take him back," he said.

"They could leave it until the last day of his loan, then take him back after Christmas going into the January window."

Chelsea's first-choice centre-halves John Terry and Alex are currently injured.
