Thousands of workers at Walsall Council have been finding out if they face a wage drop as part of the new single status system.
Letters have been sent out to anxious employees informing them of their fate.
Many have been discovering yesterday and today how they will be affected. Under the new system about 20 per cent of workers are to get a pay cut while 31 per cent will see it increase. About 50 per cent will stay the same. Unison was holding talks with members yesterday.
The union, which represents about 3,000 employees, has not ruled out strike action. Meanwhile, GMB which has more than 2,000 members is to ballot over industrial action next week.
The shake-up was approved at a full meeting of the council earlier this week and affects 7,500 workers.
