Pelsall Social hold slender lead in race for title

Pelsall Social A are still setting the pace at the top of the Aldridge League Premier Division.

They chalked up a comfortable 4-1 success at home to Golden Cue A and lead second-placed St Johns SC by two points.

Scott Tapper, Chris Jones, with a break of 56, Paul Harrison (38) and Nathan Aston, with runs of 39 and 37, saw Social past Golden Cue. Michael Smith rolled in a 35 on his way to claiming a consolation frame for Cue.

St John SC closed the gap by a point after beating Aldridge Cons A 5-0.

Jack Harris was in fine form for St Johns with breaks of 65 and 47. Paul Hodgkiss, Jamie Harris (41), Steve Barton (37) and Robbie James (47) also won.

Willenhall Liberal remain three points back in third after whitewashing hosts Stafford Institute. Simon Gough, Nathan Wood, Andy Price, Adrian Rosa, who rolled in a 53, and Lee Bannister completed a good night’s work.

At the other end of the table, Bloxwich Memorial A moved to with one point of safety after beating Landywood SC A 3-2.

Rob Hayward and Steven Cotterill put hosts Bloxwich 2-0 up before Dale Hughes (30) pulled a frame back for Landywood.

Dave Briggs then sealed the win for the home side. Dave Turner took the final frame for Landywood to keep them just a point ahead of their opponents.

It’s as you were in Division One as the top two teams remain separated by a single point.

Leaders Aldridge Cons B came back from 2-0 at home to the Amery to win 3-2. Des Pitt and Carl Rushton got Amery off to a flyer, but Matthew Caron, Richard Parker and Tony Walker responded in style.

Second-placed Poets Corner were also made to work hard for their 3-2 win at Colebatches Club.

Leon Tranter took the opening frame on the black for the hosts as he ended the unbeaten run of Pommy Kang.

Dave Blunt and Scott Smith then put Colebatches in front, but it was short-lived as Ian Beale levelled and Mark Archer bagged the two snookers he required to claim victory.

Bentley Moor A pocketed a 3-2 success at Rushall Labour A.

Phil Bush held his nerve in the decider to see Bentley to victory. Steve Bircher and Stuart Cox also won for the visitors. Rushall’s Steven Shaw knocked in a break of 42.

On a good night for the Bentley Moor side, the B team moved five points clear of the drop zone thanks to a 3-2 victory against Pelsall Social B.

The gap at the top of the Division Two table was cut to just one point despite leaders Old Hall SC B picking up a 3-2 win away at Landywood SC B.

Nathan Edwards and Steve Morris got them off to a fine start before the hosts hit back through John Richardson.

Their comeback continued in frame four courtesy of Jack O’Connor, but the visitors wouldn’t be denied as Tom Hurst took a tight final frame.

Second-placed Q Bar closed the gap to just a point thanks to a fine 5-0 success at home to Norton Vic. Ryan Smith, Stewart Baker, Lee Dennant, Terry Fryer and Tom Collier were the men on the mark.

Old Hall A are the best of the rest currently, as they trail the top two by six points following a 4-1 home win against Birchills.

Nick Friend, Anthony Harris, Brad Peach and Blake Vaughan saw Old Hall across the line.

Aldridge Cons C picked up a win after they saw off Golden Cue B 4-1 away from home. Carl Murphy, Bob Davis, Bryan Jeffreys and Martin Stevens did the damage for them with the hosts sole reply coming through Hasib Hussain.
