Bully: Tying down Jonny Castro Otto is smart business from Wolves

The January transfer window has been and gone, and Wolves’ one marquee signing was Jonny Castro Otto.

Wolves paid £15million to get him in on a four-and-a-half-year deal, and that is a smart piece of business.

It was a no-brainer. I had my reservations when Barry Douglas was sold and replaced by him in the summer, but he has settled in seamlessly at left-wing-back despite being right-footed.

He has been solid, scored the odd goal and even earned some Spain caps, so you have to be pleased with tying him down.

We would have missed him had we lost him, so fair play to the club for getting that deal done and dusted. On the face of it, it is a lot of money to be paying for someone – but it is pretty much the going rate these days for a quality player, £15m is what £2m or £3m was 10-15 years ago.

A fair few players have left Wolves, either on loan or permanently over the past week, and one of those was Danny Batth being sold to Stoke. What a fantastic servant to the club he has been, and I am sure many will join me in wishing him the best of luck there!

He gave blood, sweat and tears for us, helped to get us back on track, and now he has a fresh start at a side only down the road.

Another who has left, but is still fairly nearby, is Leo Bonatini, having gone out on loan to Nottingham Forest, with them having an option to buy him in the summer. And I reckon Leo will get back among the goals at the City Ground. I am backing him to rediscover the form he had for us during the first half of last season.

Now, with the window closed, it is back to focusing solely on the games, and we’re going into today’s encounter with Everton on the back of a completely dominant display against West Ham.

That 3-0 win on Tuesday was fantastic. We persevered and picked up a thoroughly-deserved three points, so let’s hope we can keep up the momentum at Goodison Park. Fingers crossed we can get a win, and take that into Tuesday’s FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury Town.

It seems there will be a good crowd at Molineux for it, and I think fans sense we could be onto something special in the Cup.

That being said, you have got to beat what is in front of you first and foremost, so let’s hope Nuno goes for it and gets us through to Bristol City in the last 16.
