Wolves' Ryan Bennett: Let's finish the job

Ryan Bennett says Wolves' senior players are helping keep their promotion charge on track – as they eye up winning the league.

With just eight games remaining Wolves only need to win four to guarantee a return to the Premier League.

Depending on Fulham and Villa's results they may not need to win that many and in a perfect scenario can even be promoted as early as next Tuesday when they face Hull at Molineux.

In-form striker Benik Afobe recently revealed that a team meeting played a key role in Wolves' resurgence following a 4-1 defeat at Villa.

And centre half Bennett says those meetings have been a regular feature of the season, with senior players such as club captain Danny Batth influential in keeping the squad's many young stars on the level.

"There are some young lads in the squad and some experienced boys who've been in this position before," Bennett said.

"We've had meetings collectively, individually in the changing room, Danny's held meetings, we've done it all at times throughout the season when we've needed it.

"The players we have are strong characters and it's showing through now at this stage of the season that the young lads are getting a little bit of advice, everyone's keeping on their toes, the discipline's still in place from the lads who have been there and seen it and been in these sort of positions before, whether that's League One, the Championship.

"It's the standards throughout the club that have enabled us to keep it going."

Wolves face Middlesbrough at the Riverside on Friday looking to take another step towards promotion, before that home game with Hull and then what could be a decisive trip to second-placed Cardiff next Friday.

Bennett said the international break potentially came at a bad time after consecutive wins over Reading and Burton – but insisted the team will hit the ground running again this week.

"We've got an important eight games left and we've got one goal – to win the league and get promoted," he added.

"With the two big results we've just had it would have been nice to keep that momentum and run going but we've been in these situations before throughout the season and we'll make sure we hit the ground running when we come back.

"It was massive (to bounce back after the Villa defeat). You look at the gap – what it went to and what it is now – other teams have faltered and we've kicked on again.

"That's the way the league goes. We had our little dip, which every team has, and it came at a bad time for us but the lads worked hard every single day.

"We didn't do things differently, we kept exactly the same, working hard every day. Our plan was always the same and it's seen us through. That's what we believe in and that's what we'll keep doing.

"We know the goal, we've got a bit of a cushion but that means nothing unless we go and win the games.

"Ultimately it's in our hands and we want to go and win the games that are going to win us the league. It's as simple as that."
