The Baggies returned to the top of the Championship – and ended a seven game winless run – by beating Luton last weekend.

Now their aim is to build on that result, with Slaven Bilic’s side next in action at Millwall on Sunday. But while Ajayi says the win over The Hatters has helped build confidence, he says all the players will continue to just take things one game at a time as they continue with their bid to win promotion to the Premier League.

“We can’t be great players when we win and then all of a sudden turn into bad players because we lost,” the defender said when discussing the team’s recent winless run. You need to put things into perspective and keep a cool head in those types of situations.

“We’ve got a very strong group and some very strong characters in there who have been able to deal with that pressure and criticism and were able to bounce back.

“Winning does bring confidence so maybe confidence did drop a bit but we didn’t ever stop believing.

“Now it’s time to build on that. Our focus has turned to Millwall, we’ll go into that with another game plan and hopefully execute it right.”

The Baggies are set for a tough game on Sunday with Gary Rowett’s side having lost just one of their last seven league match.

Albion’s players will also have contend with the notoriously hostile atmosphere inside The Den.

But that doesn’t both Ajayi.

“I can’t speak for everyone but I enjoy the hostile environments,” the Nigerian international added.

“They kind of bring the best out of me.”
