West Brom injury update - Ahmed Hegazi back but Kieran Gibbs and Kenneth Zohore out
Ahmed Hegazi is set to return to Albion's squad for their Championship clash at Middlesbrough – but Kieran Gibbs and Kenneth Zohore will miss the trip to the North East.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning, Baggies head coach Slaven Bilic revealed left-back Gibbs broke a toe in training last week.
Striker Zohore, meanwhile, has picked up a minor calf problem.
But there is better news on Hegazi who competed 90 minutes for Egypt on Monday in their 1-0 win over Botswana.
That clash was the first senior game the centre-back has featured in since undergoing ankle surgery in the summer.
"We wanted him to play that game," Bilic said when asked about Hegazi's return.
"It’s a competitive game. To be fair, we are delighted.
"One of the reasons we haven’t talked about Ahmed a lot in his absence is because of the guys who have been doing well – we haven’t missed him that much.
"We spoke about him, and we’ve been monitoring his recovery on a daily basis.
"I’m delighted he’s back. He’s a major player, he’s a top player. He’s going to be in the squad tomorrow."
While Hegazi is back, fellow defender Gibbs will miss the game with a broken toe.
"He (Gibbs) broke his toe in one of the sessions last week," Bilic continued.
"So that’s one week, it’s going to be another week – it’s not that bad.
"They say it’ll be two, two and a half weeks that he’s out and then he’ll be back."
On Zohore, Bilic added: "He’s got a small problem. It’s a grade one with his calf, and he’s definitely going to be out for tomorrow and Tuesday.
"Hopefully he’ll be back for the game against Charlton on Saturday."
Albion saw Grady Diangana come off in the win against Cardiff a fortnight ago with an Achilles problem. But he is fine for tomorrow's game
"Grady is okay," Bilic said.
"He rested one week.
"Because of that thing with his Achilles he didn’t travel with England. But touch wood he’s good, there’s nothing wrong with him."
