Ben Foster: You can't help but get behind West Brom caretaker Darren Moore
Ben Foster says it’s easy to put in performances like Sunday’s victory at Old Trafford when someone like ‘top bloke’ Darren Moore is in charge.
Bottom club Albion stunned Manchester United 1-0 on Sunday thanks to an disciplined performance capped off with a Jay Rodriguez goal.
It was an assured victory that was markedly different to the majority of the season, when the Baggies have looked jittery and leaderless.
Foster pulled off several stunning saves to deny former Albion man Romelu Lukaku and ensure he picked up his first clean sheet since January.
And after the game he paid tribute to caretaker boss Darren Moore for galvanising the squad.
“In fairness I've got to pay big respect to Darren Moore,” he said. “The last couple of weeks he's been a real breath of fresh air.
“You just can't help but get behind him, he's brilliant. He's a top bloke from top to bottom.
“It's easy to go out and put in performances like that when you've got someone like that leading you.”
The win leaves Albion nine points from safety with four games remaining, and it would take a remarkable set of results to keep the Baggies up.
Not only would they need to win all four of their remaining games, but Swansea would need to pick up fewer than three points in their last five matches.
“We take every game as it comes, that's all we can do,” said Foster. “It's disappointing we pick up a win like this so late on in the season.
“In fairness we haven't really been thumped this season, we've been competitive in every game that we've played.
“We haven't had the rub of the green or a bit of luck here or there. The table doesn't lie though, it is what it is. We've just got to crack on.”
Foster has already committed himself to staying at the Albion for next season and was recently crowned the disabled supporters’ club player of the year.
He was back to his best at Old Trafford on Sunday, and made a string of saves to keep the scores level before Jay Rodriguez’s winner.
“The header in the second half (was my favourite),” he said. “I didn't even really think about it to be honest. It was just instincts.
“I pay tribute to the lads in front of me they were fantastic. The back four, probably a back eight at times. They were brilliant. They threw their hearts on the line and blocked everything.”
