The 37-year-old left the Baggies after Tony Pulis was sacked last year following a bust-up with interim head coach Gary Megson.

According to BBC Sheffield, he's thrown his hat into the ring for the Barnsley role that has become available following Paul Heckingbottom's departure to Leeds.

Garner worked under Pulis at Crystal Palace and Albion, but has not followed the Welshman to Middlesbrough like long-term assistant Dave Kemp and goalkeeping coach Jonathan Gould.

He has previously expressed a desire to get into management.

Barnsley have already approached current first team coach Darren Moore about their vacant head coach position but Moore, who has been promoted to his new role by Baggies boss Alan Pardew, is keen to stay at The Hawthorns.
