Tony Pulis: Grzegorz Krychowiak is worth the wait

Albion fans have been urged to give Grzegorz Krychowiak time to get used to English football – because he'll be worth the wait once he's up and running.

It's two weeks since the Polish midfielder arrived on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, and Baggies boss Tony Pulis is still surprised he managed to snag him.

Albion are paying all of Krychowiak's £108,000-a-week salary, making him the best paid player in the squad. But Pulis is confident the midfielder will reward the club with a season of dominant performances in midfield.

“I actually liked Grzegorz two years ago and I spoke to Steven N'Zonzi about him when he was at Sevilla," revealed Pulis. "Then he went off to Paris (Saint Germain), who blew us out of the water.

“I've just kept tabs on him since. I realised he wasn't playing for PSG on a regular basis and they tend to fall off the screen, and he did that, which was great for us, because we could then follow up on it."

Krychowiak impressed during the first half-an-hour of his debut last weekend before fading.

But Pulis has chased the defensive midfielder for the best part of two years, and he has no doubts in his abilities once fully fit.

“I spoke to the agent on two or three occasions over the past 14 or 15 months and luckily he had the foresight to give me a ring when he knew that they were keen to get him out on loan to see if we were interested," explained the Welshman.

“That was when I got a phone call and that was when I thought we had half a chance of getting him.

“I was still very surprised we got him. He needs games to get himself fit. But he's a very good player."

And the midfielder, who cost PSG £28million last summer, has been impressing his team-mates in training.

"He's looked really good," said Ben Foster. "He's got great calibre coming from PSG. He's just so easy, so calm, so casual. He's in the same bracket as Gareth Barry.

“I think it will take him longer to get used to Premier League football, Gaz has got about 600 games advantage on him on that one.”
