The accident involved a minibus and saw the exit slip road on the M54 West, Junction 3, for Cosford and Newport closed while emergency services attended the scene.

There were reports of five miles of congestion between Junction 2 for Wolverhampton and Junction 3, adding an expected hour onto journey times.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Services said: "We were called at 5.06pm on Wednesday to reports of a patient in a minibus on the M54 between Junctions 2 and 3.

"We sent one ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car to the scene.

"We treated one patient, a man, and he was discharged at the scene."

National Highways confirmed that the main carriageway traffic was released at around 7pm, but one lane westbound remained closed while recovery was on the scene.
