Tom Rowe

Tom Rowe, who works at the Wednesbury depot, was named Rising Star in the Global Light Rail Awards.

He has played a vital role in ensuring safety on trams for passengers and has worked with police to reduce crime - with reported incidents low on the network.

Mr Rowe often works out of hours to pass on CCTV to police so they can prosecute offenders.

He said: "It feels a bit surreal to be honoured in this way, but I’m absolutely delighted.

"Although I’ve won the award, the progress we’ve achieved so far wouldn’t have been possible without the support of colleagues and partner organisations, such as the Safer Travel Team.

"It just shows what can be done when everyone works together."

His line manager Anthony Stanley added: "It’s a fantastic achievement and thoroughly deserved. Tom always works tirelessly."

West Midlands Metro was also a runner-up in the Operator of the Year award and highly commended in the Most Improved System category.
