The Grade ll listed building in Mount Pleasant, Bilston, has been empty for several years and was snapped up at auction recently by local developer Vijay Kumar.

Planning bosses have now given the go-ahead for him to turn the property into three two-bedroomed residential flats.

Councillor Linda Leach, who represents Bilston North, said: "It’s really great news to hear that this Grade ll listed building is going to be brought back into use, providing much-needed accommodation.

"I am really pleased that this building is being preserved and also that the external character of the building is being retained. I look forward in seeing its progress."

A Heritage and Design statement submitted to council planning bosses by Mr Kumar’s agent Thorne Architecture said: "The redevelopment of the building will bring back into use a currently redundant building.

"The conversion will provide sustainable homes thereby ensuring the ongoing survival of the building into the future. The setting is located within a row of 18th and 19th Century buildings of similar style.

"The alterations and conversion will have minimal impact on the property and the character of the building and surrounding area will not be adversely affected by the conversion."

An additional outbuilding is set to be converted into cycle and bin stores.
