Police received reports of a man climbing through the smashed window of a house in Swinford Road, Park Village, at around 10.45pm on Wednesday.

Officers and a sniffer dog raced to the scene and an initial search of the address found no sign of an intruder.

But determined police officers spotted what appeared to be new scuff marks near the loft hatch.

And, after a thorough search of the loft, they found a man at the far end – wrapped up in insulation material.

A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and remains in police custody for questioning.

Det Con Vicky Robey, from West Midlands Police's Force CID, said: "We don't play hide and seek – we just do seek.

"There was no immediate sign of an intruder but our officers were determined to ensure the household was safe.

"Even though it wasn't obvious to the naked eye, they managed to find the suspect wrapped up in lagging."

She added: "There really is no hiding place from us."
