Staff at Compton Care, who help and support people living with life-limiting illnesses, have created a rainbow of hands outside the hall in Compton.

The 3D-effect rainbow was created by members of staff, who cut out their hand prints on different coloured paper.

The display stands outside the hall, where two inpatient units are currently operating and a set number of staff are working to provide the required care on site.

Head of communications Grace Lee said the display was called "Hands that care", a name reflecting the hands-on care being provided by key workers at Compton and all over the country.

She said: "Compton staff are considered key workers at this time, so it's a full tribute to everyone who is on the front line at the moment in the fight against Covid-19.

"It was an idea by Rachel Bullock, an arts therapist at Compton, who is very skilled at helping people express their feelings through art and who co-ordinated this project.

All staff members were asked to make a hand print towards the display which is on the lawn of the hospice

"The hands signify the work of the NHS, with the rainbow being a symbol of life, and I feel what we do at Compton Care is give people that glimmer of hope in dark and troubled times."

Grace also praised the creativity of its members, many of whom have continued to fundraise for Compton during the pandemic, and had a message for all supporters.

She said: "Thank you for sticking by us as we really appreciate being in their hearts and their minds at the moment.

"We're doing more than ever to care for the people that need us and we are reliant on their support as a charity.

"We've had to close our charity shop and cancel our fundraising events, so we're grateful to them as they're continuing to step up and support us at the same time."
