And it was a double celebration at the weekend as Christine turned 67 on Saturday and celebrated with family and friends.

Christine has been working on the same crossing since 1994 just off the Broadway and West Bromwich Road junction in the Delves area.

During that time she has served the pupils of Whitehall Nursery and Infant School and Joseph Leckie Academy for 29 years come rain or shine and now also helps youngsters from two nearby nursery schools safely across the road as well as scores of other pedestrians.

On her final day, friends family and well wishers turned out to say goodbye, with the retiring crossing patrol warden seeing them safely across the road for one final time.
