Pupils and staff at Christ Church CE Primary, in Harden Road, collected around 300 chocolate selection boxes which will be donated to a local food bank in Bloxwich.

The school decided it wanted to show the true meaning of Christmas and help people less fortunate than themselves who are relying on food banks for them and their families.

Chase Hawkins, who is in Year 5, spent his own pocket money and encouraged his parents to match his generous donation.

Marcus Woodhouse, a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant at the school said: “The current economic climate means lots of families in our local community are struggling and relying on food banks.

“I felt it was important to do something to bring a bit of joy to the lives of people struggling at Christmas.

“My heart bursts with the support from colleagues, pupils, friends, family and

local businesses to help collect over 300 selection boxes for local people dependent on Bloxwich and Blakenall food bank this year.”

Christ Church Headteacher, Sean Davies added: “Everyone deserves a bit of Christmas cheer, so when Mr Woodhouse suggested asking the “Christ

Church family” to pull together by collecting selection boxes for the local food bank, we all joined in!

“I am amazed by the amount of donations, which has shown the true Christian spirit at Christ Church.”

And Chair of governors Lee Jeavons said: “I am outrageously proud that our school has risen to this challenge, but not surprised.

“The community the school serves is close knit and generous despite the obvious cost-of-living challenges that many of our families are experiencing. I can only thank everyone who has taken part in this effort.”
